A Last-Gasp Push on Voting Rights


It’s a big week in the Senate for voting rights. Democrats have bills that include measures to target voter suppression and gerrymandering, and an increase in federal oversight of elections.

For years, Democrats have said that the proposals are of the utmost importance. Yet, there is almost universal agreement that they are doomed.

Why has it proved almost impossible to pass legislation so integral to the agenda of President Biden and the Democrats?
