A gunman fired at police officers from the second floor of an apartment building in Brown Deer, Wis., on Saturday. They were not injured, officials said.
Two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting on Saturday at an apartment building in Brown Deer, Wis., a village north of Milwaukee, the police said.
Peter A. Nimmer, the police chief of Brown Deer, said that the gunman had been taken to the hospital and that there was “no reason to believe that there is any danger to the community at this time.” One of the two people who were injured was in critical condition, the chief added.
He said he was unsure of the gunman’s condition; his name was not made public. The police did not offer a motive for the attack.
“We believe there might have been a shooting inside the apartment as well as in the parking lot,” Chief Nimmer said. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Twitter that it was responding to preliminary reports that a man and woman had died.
Officers were dispatched to the Park Plaza Apartments at 10:09 a.m. in response to reports of a shooting at the complex and were fired upon from the second floor of the building when they arrived, Chief Nimmer said.
He said that none of the officers had returned fire and that none were injured.
The F.B.I. and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office helped with the response, which drew a heavy police presence, including two armored vehicles.
