Lateral flow tests: Should I recycle the plastic?

According to researchers, the UK’s lateralflow testing program has generated enough plastic waste to fill 19 Olympic swimming pools or 200,000 bathtubs.

The Energy and Environment Institute at University of Hull claims that once it was discovered that Covid-19 spreads more through air than surfaces, then the UK government should have begun recycling tests to reduce plastic pollution.

According to the government, they have already made improvements to make the tests more durable. Should we have been reusing our lateral flow testing kits?

BBC Health reporter Laura Foster explains the situation in just two minutes. Foster collected the waste from all of her lateral flow tests.
