The Ghana village where deaf couples were outlawed

Adamorobe, a village in Ghana, is unusual because 3% of its population is deaf.

Locals created their own sign language to help with communication difficulties.

In an effort to reduce the number of deaf children born, village elders in the 1970s prohibited deaf people marrying.

The ban has been lifted and the University of Ghana is now studying the village to determine how hereditary deafness works.
