Three people were injured in a clash between police and protesters over Quran burnings. This triggered riots in many Swedish towns this Easter weekend.
Counter-protesters attacked police in some areas ahead of planned right-wing extremist demonstrations. The violence was condemned by Magdalena Andersson, Prime Minister. Police stated online that all three of the injured were taken into custody on suspicion of criminal activity. They also said none of their injuries were life-threatening.
A riot erupted from a car that was on fire ahead of a demonstration by Rasmus Paludan, a Danish anti-Muslim politician, and Stram Kurs party. This demonstration, which included a burning of the Koran (Muslim holy book), in Navestad Norrkoping in Sweden, April 17, 2022.
Police stated that Norrkoping was in a calm state on Sunday night.
During the last days, police and protesters engaged in violent clashes where many officers were injured and several vehicles torched.
On Thursday, violence broke out following a demonstration organized by Rasmus Paludan (leader of the far-right Danish political party Hard Line). Paludan was granted permission to hold a series in Sweden over the Easter weekend. He is well-known for his Quran burnings.
