UAE senior official : ‘We need to have a plan from now for next year in order to prevent the Jerusalem unrest from happening again’

It is vital that the UAE maintains its credibility in the region. It is also important that we communicate with the governments and people of the region whenever possible. In an interview with EJP in Abu Dhabi, Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, who is a member the Emirati Federal Council, stated that they want them respect what we have to say and to view us as responsible. He also said that they want to respect our credibility.

“Whatever happened will have an effect on other countries that have not joined the Abraham Accords, but it will not have any impact on relations between Israel and the UAE. These activities will make it difficult for other countries to join.

“If Israel wishes to normalize with the region, it must also do its homework. You have to stop the violence from Israeli fanatics who visit the Temple Mount. Ebtesam Al Ketbi, President, Emirates Policy Center, stated that extremists from both sides are not interested in the Abraham Accords’ success.

Amir Hayek from Israel was summoned by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), earlier this week to discuss recent Jerusalem escalations. This is the first such rebuke since relations between the two countries were normalized under the Abraham Accords a year and a quarter ago.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, UAE Minister for International Cooperation, informed the ambassador of her country’s strong protest and denunciation about the events in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. This included attacks on civilians as well as incursions into holy sites that caused injury to a number civilians.” According to Emirati WAM news agency,

She stressed that Israel must “immediately cease these events, provide complete pro-tection to worshippers, respect the Palestinians’ religious rights, and stop any practices that violate Al-Aqsa Mosque’s sanctity,” WAM reported.

Israel accuses Arab leaders of inciting tensions by pushing Muslim claims regarding the Temple Mount. They also claim Israeli attempts to disrupt a delicate status quo. Jordanian Waqf, also known as Haram al-Sharif to Muslims, is the Temple Mount’s administrator. It banned Jews from praying there. As the location of the biblical temples, the Temple Mount is Judaism’s holiest site. Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest shrine, is located on the Temple Mount. Many people visited holy sites during Ramadan, Passover and other holidays.

According to a spokesperson for the foreign ministry, Yair Lapid, the Israeli Foreign Minister, spoke on Wednesday with Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, his Emirati counterpart, about tensions at the Temple Mount/Al-Aqsa complex.

The conversation saw the foreign ministers discuss the difficulties of dealing with anti Israel fake news in the Arab World and they agreed to continue working together to promote religious tolerance as well as peace between Israel, Middle Eas-tern Arabs.

According to an Israeli Foreign Ministry statement, the Emirati Foreign Minister also “expressed his appreciation to Israeli efforts to calm down the situation and expressed his understanding for the on the ground difficulties that Israel faces.” This was in reference to the Israeli march through Damascus Gate and to the closing of Temple Mount to Jewish visitors between Friday and the end of Ramadan.

According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Abdullah was happy that the Israeli government had decided to stop the ‘Israeli Flags March’ from reaching Bab al-Amud and to prohibit non-Muslim visitors to enter the Al-Aqsa courtyards between Friday and the end of Holy Month Ramadan.

The UAE foreign minister stated that the region needed stability and cooperation to progress in development along all roads so as to realize the aspirations for prosperity and progress of its peoples.

“Israel will preserve and continue to maintain the status quo at the Temple Mount,” declared Yair Lapid. Yair Lapid stated that they have no plans to change it.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said Israel is a stabilizing force without which tens of thousand of Muslims wouldn’t be able pray at the Al Aksa Mosque. He said that the rioters had prepared stones and Molotov cocktails ahead of time to be used inside the mosque.

Interview with Yossi Leempkowicz, Editor-in-Chief of European Jewish Press (EJP), and Senior Media Advisor to Europe Israel Press Association, (EIPA) in Abu Dhabi, Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman, Defence, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee of the UAE Federal Council, stressed the importance of having a plan for next year. This is in order to avoid the same fate as the Jerusalem events.

He said, “Why letting those extremists on both sides to take over, to hijack not just the general public, but also the governments and the officials, and to put them in a situation where we all suffer,”

“Those extremists from both sides are stealing the minds and hearts of people on both sides.” We have seen that both sides had announced their plans long before Ramadan ….. The Israeli government and Palestinian Authority failed to take preventive measures.

Dr Rashid stated that the UAE’s position is that they must ensure that extremists do not take the lead and place us in a position that will allow them to radicalize the other sides and make the people sympathize with the other side.

“I spoke to some Israeli friends yesterday. I said to them that we should have a plan for next year starting now. This would allow us to reach the Israeli public and the Palestinian public, particularly those in Jerusalem, to raise awareness about the potential damage these extremists could cause to both of our sides.

He said that the UAE believes in peace, engagement, and the momentum that we have started in bringing people to people. However, he warned that extremists on both ends will undermine our efforts to bring people closer together, and to maintain the momentum to expand upon the Abraham Accords throughout the region.

“It is vital for the UAE to keep its credibility in the region. We must also trust them when we talk to other governments in the region. He said that we expect them to listen to what we have to say and to view us as trustworthy, and to also respect our credibility.

“Whatever happened will have an effect on other countries that have not joined the Abraham Accords, but it won’t have any impact on relations between Israel and the UAE. These activities will make it difficult for other countries to join. ”

He stated clearly that ”there’s no way back” when it comes to Abraham Accords or peace, but he also stressed that we need to do the right thing to keep our credibility and continue to play our part in promoting peace and bringing Israel together.

“‘ Jerusalem is sensitive to both the Israelis, the Palestinians, the Jews and Muslims as well as the rest of the world and the three monotheistic faiths. We wish the Israelis would sit down with the Jordanians and coordinate matters, as the Jordanians oversee the Christian and Muslim sites in Jerusalem. Dr Rashid Al Nuami stated that the Jordanians could control the Palestinian Authority.

“It is obvious that Hamas will always seek to undermine peace efforts and support terrorist agendas when it comes to Hamas. Hamas would be put in a corner if we reached an agreement with the Jordanians and Israel.

“That’s why I believe we need to have a preventive plan. We must also make the public, the people of the region, aware of this plan so that Hamas, Jihad Islamic, and other groups do not profit from such extremist activities by extremists from both the sides.

In a separate interview, Dr Ebtesam al-Ketbi, President, Emirates Policy Center, stated that the summoning of an Israeli ambassador was a message from the UAE, who invested in Abraham Accords. He wanted to introduce Israel to the region, and to introduce the concept of tolerance between all religions.

“What is happening is a huge challenge. All the Arab world condemned the UAE for signing the Abraham Accords as the first country. The UAE.

“If Israel wishes to normalize relations with the region, it must also do its homework. You have to stop Israeli fanatics from going to the Temple Mount. She said that extremists from both sides are not interested in the Abraham Accords being a success.

“Don’t allow a small group of people to do this. You have to counter this. They won’t sympathize with your actions during this time. It is very sad to see the images of the Israeli soldiers at the Mosque beating people. Al-Ketbi said that the Israelis should be more wise.

She said, “Some want to destroy everything that has been done since Abraham Accords.” This is the message of UAE. You can use your law and force against those who are threatening the situation.

“The Abraham Accords were not meant to be broken. All the countries signed, but there are spoilers. These spoilers should not be allowed to continue their agenda,” Dr al-Ketbi said.
