Goodbye Turkey, hello Türkiye

Turkey is rebranding its internationally recognised name as “Türkiye”.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the new name “represents and expresses the culture, civilisation, and values of the Turkish nation in the best way”.

But the change is about more than phonetic pronunciation. BBC Monitoring’s Ilgin Karlidag explains.
