EPP Group leadership to visit Ukraine and Lithuania

In light of Russia’s mobilization on the Ukrainian border and their threats to European security, the EPP Group leadership are visiting Ukraine and Lithuania from the 20-23 of February. “With our visit, we are showing our unconditional support for Ukraine and our EU and NATO partners to protect our allies and our European way of life,” said Manfred Weber MEP, chairman of the EPP Group, who will lead the high-level delegation.

In Kyiv, Ukraine, the delegation will meet with the Speaker of the Parliament Ruslan STEFANCHUK, Prime Minister Denys SHMYHAL, Defence Minister Oleksii REZNIKOV, as well as representatives of the EPP sister parties. Together with MEPs, the delegation will pay its respects to the Heavenly Hundred Alley Monument on Maidan Square.

In Vilnius, Lithuania, the delegation will visit the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battle Group in Rukla and participate in a high-level Baltic security conference to discuss the current developments with Ingrida ŠIMONYTĖ, prime minister of Lithuania, Krišjānis KARIŅŠ, prime minister of Latvia, Gabrielus LANDSBERGIS, foreign affairs minister of Lithuania, and Finnish Kokoomus party leader Petteri ORPO as well as MEPs from the Baltic states.

“The purpose of this visit is to show the European Parliament’s solidarity with Ukraine and its people who want to be part of the European family. Ukraine is a free and independent state that decides on its own future,” said Rasa Juknevičienė MEP, vice chairwoman of the EPP Group.

The EPP Group is the largest political group in the European Parliament with 177 members from all EU member states.
