Moscow’s upcoming anniversary of the end of World War II and Russia’s liberation will not have any bearing on its military operations in Ukraine, according to the country’s foreign ministry on Sunday.
Sergei Lavrov stated that soldiers would not base their actions on a particular date when asked if the May 9 anniversary would be a turning point.
“We’ll remember our victory with solemnity, but the timing of what is happening to Ukraine will depend on the need for Russian soldiers and civilians to be safe,” he said, speaking in Russian via an interpreter from Italy.
